Lentoid-shape bead set into the gold. In this form, with holes in the metal corresponding to the hole in the stone, the stone is secured, decorated, and the whole can be used as an element of a necklace or ring.
“Circular, thick and flat green stone (emerald ?) bead, set in a gold mount made of sheet metal and globuled welded together; the mount consists of a shallow cylinder on a flat annular base, slightly larger and decorated with a granulated circle of globules. Two holes on opposites sides in the cylinder, surrounded by a round coil of metal, correspond to the suspension hole pierced lengthwise in the stone.” https://research.britishmuseum.org/research/collection_online/collection_object_details.aspx?objectId=143460&partId=1&searchText=Egypt+gold&images=true&page=5
Curator’s comment: “Dioptase in gold setting with row of globules” mentioned by W.M.F. Petrie, Tanis ii, Nebesheh and Defenneh, p. 110, pl. xli, 31, probably the “piece of dioptase set in gold” mentioned in the text (ibid., p. 76 § 73), with no reference to the plate.”
