Dzhurga-oba necropolis, Crimea, 5th century

One of the richest finds of the Dzhurga-oba necropolis was made quite recently, in 2007. In the tomb No. 29 was discovered a rich burial of a 25 years old woman. The catacomb-type crypt is a soil crypt with a burial chamber trapezoidal in plan, a small dromos and a predromos pit about 4.5 m long, it was let in to a depth of 4.89 m from the surface.

The woman’s burial was untouched, gold and silver jewelry, as well as toilet items were found. The grave goods also included a red-glazed dish with remnants of the afterlife meal, a glass jug and a copper Bosporus bowl.
Among the adornments are a gold foil diadem with a six-pointed star in the center and shamrocks along the edges, two gold earrings with carnelian and garnet inserts and pair of matching bracelets, two rings with garnet inserts, a gold braided cord necklace with pendants, a triple gold necklace ribbed threads, alternating with triple lows of black beads. Jewelry dates back to the beginning of the 5th century, the Great Migration Period.
