MBA Lyon inv. no. 2007-7 “Bas-relief with horseman”
Relief dedicated to the cavalryman (hero) Manemos, 2nd century, Dura Europos, Syria.
“The face is full and the almond-shaped eyes are wide open and hemmed, the mutilation of the nose and the upper part of the mouth makes it impossible to tell whether he wore a mustache. His hairstyle is made of long, soft locks thrown back, separated by a middle parting; it is surrounded by a thin wreath of foliage decorated in its center with a sort of square cabochon. The character wears a necklace whose center is decorated with a cabochon and a bracelet on each wrist.” [Annie Sartre-Fauriat]
