Description by Шуринова
“The painting from Bawit is very important for the identification of the character depicted on the fabric, because the images of the saints here are accompanied by inscriptions. Unfortunately, the inscription near the head of the saint we are interested in is damaged. J. Kleda cites it in his research as follows: ΑΠΑ CIABAN[E].
In the sketch of this painting, given by A. Badavi, three more letters are placed to the left of the head of “apa Sylvanas” … ΛΛΓ
Letters ΛΛΓ are possibly related to his name (the names of the adjacent figures have the form: “apa Sylvane patros …” and others).
The iconographic type of “apy silvane” on the veil is rare. And the fact that, in addition to our fabric, it is presented only in the XXVI Chapel in Bawit, suggests that the fabric is somehow connected with this place.
It is possible that the curtain was specially woven for a local monastery, or more likely made directly in Bawit.”
