Byzantine earrings with a pearl border

These are two sides of an earring that was found in Tharros, Sardinia, and is dated to the 6th-7th century.
The earring is made of gold with an amethyst bead and white pearls. The (total?) length is 3.5 cm.

It will be interesting to recreate this earring to understand the way of thinking of the old master. I feel like someone “improved” the original idea.

In The Met collection there is a pair of earrings with a similar design, but other proportions make these earrings not so glamorous.
They are made of gold with a sapphire bead and white pearls. In the upper parts pearls (beads) are missing.
