Female burial, East Germanic, 5th century [d/b]

“A 50-70 year old woman was buried in the grave of Hochfelden. Her skull may have been slightly artificially deformed; the long bones indicate that she was often mounted on horseback. The robe clasps and the metal appliqués speak of Eastern origin based on their shape and way of wearing. A very special indication of this is the small metal mirror with a smooth front, ribs and eyelet on the back, which is one of the cultural assets brought west by the Huns. As an exception, this mirror was given unbroken. The rich precious metal jewelry suggests the noble lineage of the woman. In literature it is usually attributed to the Goths. Hochfelden is probably located south of the ‘Wormser Burgundian Empire’.” [http://www.omm.de/veranstaltungen/festspiele2004/KA-nibelungen-sonderausstellung.html]
