The gilded silver statue of a modest Venus seems to have been found in 1990, in unknown circumstances, in the vicinity of the ancient city of Begram, and it is in the private collection.
“The height of the statuette is 32.5 cm with the base. According to the photo-graphs taken before restoration, the head and the base of the statuette were found detached from the body. The body, on the contrary, was well preserved.
The figure is made from a single sheet of silver, with the two edges folded together, then hammered and soldered. The mirror, the base and the lower parts of the arms were made separately and soldered on. The fittings for the arms can be seen in the photographs taken before restoration. The entire statuette was restored in London.”
