“During the search and combing operations in the Palmyra desert, the competent authorities found a complete artifact representing a huge funerary bed carved with great precision and perfection.
According to “SANA”, it weighs more than 1,000 kilograms. ISIS terrorists stole it from one of the ancient Palmyra cemeteries before they were defeated from the area and tried to smuggle it abroad.
The curator of the Homs Archaeological Museum, Lubbat al-Ali, explained that “this important artifact” represents a funerary bed made of white limestone, decorated with striking ornamentation and engravings, on which a figure of a man dressed in Palmyra clothing was carved with a wreath of laurel on his head.
She added, “A woman in Palmyra dress sits next to him with a bandage on her head,” noting that this funerary bed, which is about two meters long and one meter high, dates back to the flourishing period of the city of Palmyra in the second and third centuries AD.
It is noteworthy that the General Directorate of Museums and Antiquities recently revealed a box containing hundreds of artifacts such as ornaments, statues, pottery and glass vessels dating back to various historical eras, which the Hama Antiquities Department hid from terrorist organizations during their presence in the region.”
