About 375-325 BCE, gold earrings. Unearthed in the city of Homole (Homolium, Ancient Magnesia in Thessaly region, Greece).
Magnesian Antiquities Office / Volos Archaeological Museum Collection (M 49, M 50)
The earrings are in the shape of a boat with a filigree lion’s head at the end, with winged seahorses and birds perched on the hull. The earrings are composed of two halves, the front and the back, and the junctions of the upper and lower ends are covered with rows of fine gold beads. The seahorse is made from two pieces of gold leaf, front and back, cut and decorated in bas-relief, while the lion head is made separately. A long gold chain hangs loosely, and the ends are held in place by rings near the top of the boat.
