“The lower terrace of the sacred area of Santo Stefano presents an enclosure as the oldest trace, supported by a terrace and enclosed by walls made of irregular blocks of stone. A short distance from the enclosure, between the end of the 4th and the beginning of the 3rd century BC, a chamber tomb was built, with female deposition.
Known as the “Tomb of the Golds” due to the richness of its grave goods, the burial presented the body on a funeral bed with the head facing north. Among the objects deposited in honor of the deceased, black painted ceramics, bronze pottery, a strigils, tweezers, small boxes and a mirror belonging to a bronze and silver makeup set stand out. The jewels included in the kit are earrings, a bracelet, rings, fibulae and a splendid necklace with lanceolate pendants.”
“Thus, inside the area sacred to the goddess Mefite, a woman was buried together with her possessions in a small underground chamber. Gold jewellery, silver vases, candelabra and her bronze vases from her banquet service, vases for perfumed oils and the spoon for cleaning up your skin after the gym.
Today no one knows her name anymore but it is said that she belonged to a rich and powerful family and that she was a mother of a family who spun wool, but also a priestess of the Goddess, who participated in sacred banquets.”
