Yemeni archaeological researcher Abdullah Mohsen reported on July 24 2023, that a 2,200-year-old Yemeni necklace made of gold with carnelian and amethyst beads is for sale in New York City, USA. Necklace had previously been offered for sale at an auction on February 23, 2021: “the property of a respected man, from his private collection that was formed in the years 1965-2020; this collection was verified against Interpol’s database of stolen works of art.”
The necklace consists of spherical agate beads interspersed with grained gold beads, in addition to six double-faced gold pendants surrounding the central pendant, which is in the shape of a two-sided bust with stylized features, and four charms at the bottom with agate, red, amethyst, and gold beads.
Abdullah Mohsen stated that the necklace was restored with the addition of a modern 18-karat gold pendant clasp.
